The Bear Roscoe Ann, the mascot of the 569th Bomb Squadron, 390th Bomb Group, 8th Airforce. Roscoe the bear was given to Lt. George Nelson by a park ranger when "he" was still a cub after Nelson and 11 other officers were inducted into the Blackfeet Indian Tribe. Roscoe traveled to England in the radio room of Lt. Becker's B-17 Flying Fortress and became the official mascot of the 569th Bomb Squadron. «He» enjoyed life at Parham / Framlingham, had free run of the base and could pick and choose bunks to sleep on. Eventually it was discovered that Roscoe was actually female, so she was renamed Roscoe Ann! As she grew older and more adventurous, Roscoe Ann wandered into the surrounding villages where she delighted the local children and terrorized the local church. Unfortunately, she developed a taste for sweets, which led to health problems. Six months after she joined the 390th Bomb Group in Framlingham, Suffolk, she had to be euthanized. The officer who had the unfortunate task of doing this claimed it was the most difficult job he ever had.
