The B-25J The Big Swing hit by flak during the attack on the Brenner Line on February 7, 1945.

B-25 J Mitchell, Serial No. 43-4067, Nik Name: The Big Swing, from the 12th Air Force, 321st Bomb Group, 448th Squadron. Launched from Solenzara, Corsica (FR) with a mission to bomb the bridge at Lavis (I). After an attack by flak, the crew of another aircraft noticed a large hole in the wing of the B-25 "Big Swing". The aircraft rapidly lost altitude and the crew abandoned their Mitchell by parachute. The pilotless aircraft crashed in Arbedo near Bellinzona. The crew landed in Switzerland, where they were interned until the end of the war. The remains of the B-25 were scrapped in Switzerland.

Corporal Evo J. Petruzzi

Radio operator/side gunner Corporal Evo Petruzzi, age 28, of Pittsburgh PA, was the last to jump from the plane. He had risked his life big time just before the bomber went down. He landed here at the Monti di Tagliada. Remember his lucky number C (written in the logbook) to find the Big Swing at the end of this series, where you have to rescue all six airmen at the respective landing sites. If you are in search of the whole series, we do not advise you to reach the Bonus Cache directly from here: the way would be difficult and dangerous. Better to climb in the Arbedo Valley with the search as last, of the co-pilot Sanders and the pilot Sheffield.

Crew:

Copilot: 2nd Lt. William A. Sanders

Bombardier : S/Sgt Louis E. Rêves

Engineer: Sgt. Maxwell J. Lasskow

Radio : Cpl. Evo J. Petrizzi

Gunner: Sgt. Joseph C. Brentar
