Hans Giger experienced World War 2 as a pilot in the Swiss Air Force, starting his career in wooden biplanes. Later, he was there when the top-secret German jet fighter ME-262 and the radar-equipped ME-110 fell into the hands of the Swiss Army. Even before the war, the farmer boy fulfilled his then exotic career wish and trained as a pilot in Dübendorf. During the following years, he witnessed how aircraft technology developed rapidly and how Swiss planes shot down German fighters.
